The ISUOG Outreach program is reliant on the expertise and willingness of volunteers who offer their time to help train health professionals around the world.
Volunteering for ISUOG Outreach requires a considerable commitment of time and effort, and some financial commitment. Of course, ISUOG will also work hard to ensure that volunteers are recognised and valued and that the projects they participate in are both safe and sustainable.

Clinical Ultrasound Mentorship Programme
Where: Haiti
When: 2010 - 2011
Project duration: 1-2 weeks
Partner Organisations: Partners in Health / Zanmi Lasante
Summary:
ISUOG has run three successful training programmes in Haiti over the last two years and secured the donation of 10 ultrasound machines. The work of the Outreach team has ensured that there are now physicians in Haiti capable of training more health professionals in ultrasound.
To build on these skills, ISUOG would now like to provide volunteers for 1-2 week sessions of ‘in situ’ ultrasound supervision and mentoring of physicians and midwives. The aim will be to build on and strengthen the basic skills already in place since our previous visits.
These visits will serve as an opportunity to refresh didactic information and to monitor the progress of practitioners through the basic ultrasound examination in obstetrics and gynecology.
Clinical ultrasound mentorship will be targeted at physicians and midwives and will focus on basic obstetric scanning and will reinforce appropriate indications for scanning as well as scanning ability.
Details:
There are 3 main hospitals in the Central Plateau region of Haiti where volunteers will be based: Petite Riviere, Las Cahobas, and Cange.
Volunteers will be provided with accommodation, food, airport transfers, and translators as necessary. ISUOG does not normally pay for air travel to the project location (please see the ISUOG Volunteer Policy for details on flight costs), however travel assistance may be available.
Partners in Health will manage on site volunteer briefing, introduction and support. This will include trip preparation, ground transport arrangements, medical preparation, and Haitian cultural competency briefing.
ISUOG will prep volunteers on the history of the training program in Haiti and the objectives for the visit. Educational material will be provided by ISUOG.
If you have read the ISUOG Volunteer Policy and are interested in applying to be an ISUOG Outreach Volunteer, please download and complete the Volunteer Application Form and email it to info@isuog.org
The potential cost of international travel for volunteers will be taken into consideration when considering suitability for a placement.
