Fetal anomalies & echocardiography: advanced sonographic techniques

This intensive course offers delegates full immersion in the subject area.  At the end of the two day program delegates should have a basic broad knowledge of advanced ultrasound techniques for the diagnosis of congenital anomalies and a comprehensive understanding of how to assess the fetal nervous system and heart.  The traditional lecture program is complemented by interactive sessions.

At the end of the course participants are expected to be able to:

  1. Recognise the techniques needed to correctly assess fetal anatomy in general and the nervous system and heart in particular
  2. Recognise and discriminate in between the major features of central nervous system anomalies
  3. Recognise the echocardiographic features of major congenital heart diseases
  4. Recognise the diagnostic role of colour Doppler in the detection of congenital heart disease
  5. Have a basic knowledge of the outcomes of the different congenital anomalies including in particular nervous malformation and congenital heart diseases
  6. Recognise the possible role of fetal 3D and 4D ultrasound and magnetic resonance in the assessment of extra-cardiac anomalies
  7. Recognise the possible role of 4D-echocardiography in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease in the fetus
  8. Understand the role of ultrasound and magnetic resonance in the identification of congenital infection with a specific focus on cytomegalovirus

The International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net.  

The course 'Fetal anomalies & echocardiography: advanced sonographic techniques' is designated for a maximum of (or 'for up to') 12 hours of European external CME credits. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Through an agreement between the European Union of Medical Specialists and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
