Professor Liona Poon is an Academic Subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine, devoted in improving maternal and fetal health. She has had a prolific research output throughout her clinical and research posts, including over 130 peer-reviewed publications in high impact international journals. In the last 10 years she has focused her research on establishing a programme for effective early prediction and prevention of preeclampsia, a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. With her success in developing a first-trimester prediction model for preeclampsia using maternal risk factors, ultrasound, blood pressure and biochemical markers, and on Aspirin prophylaxis against preeclampsia, her goal in the next 10 years is to improve obstetric care worldwide, through clinical research and education.

Prof. Fabricio da Silva Costa (MD, PhD, FRANZCOG, DDU, COGU, Diploma in Fetal Medicine, FMF-London, UK) graduated in medicine in 1995. He was awarded a PhD in 2001 from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil for Doppler studies in the prediction of pre-eclampsia. In 2009, Prof. Costa moved to Australia and worked at the Royal Women’s Hospital (University of Melbourne Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) for 7 years, where he became Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Melbourne.
Later, he was the Medical Director of Monash Ultrasound for Women, Adj. Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash University and Head of Perinatal Services at the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne before relocating back to Brazil in mid-2018 as the Head of the Ultrasound Service, Dapartment of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ribeirao Preoto, Medical School, University of Sao Paulo. Currently, he is the Acting Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit, Gold Coast University Hospital and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellow at Monash Medical Centre
A/Prof. Daniel Rolnik is a consultant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Monash Medical Centre and a senior lecturer at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He is originally from Brazil and, after his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sao Paulo and his MSc degree, he moved to the United Kingdom to undergo subspecialty training and do his PhD at King’s College Hospital / Fetal Medicine Foundation under the supervision of Prof. Kypros Nicolaides. Daniel coordinated the ASPRE trial on the prediction and prevention of preterm pre-eclampsia with aspirin, and has since moved to Australia, where he conducts research on prenatal diagnosis and prediction and prevention of pregnancy complications.
Daniel is also currently doing a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Harvard University (USA), and is an Editor of the Perinatal Journal.

Prof. Jon Hyett trained in obstetrics and gynecology and sub-specialised in maternal and fetal medicine in the UK. He is currently Joint Head of the Discipline of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonataology at the University of Sydney. He is involved nationally with the Nuchal Translucency Accreditation Program of RANZCR / RANZCOG and internationally with the obstetric ultrasound accreditation programs run by the Fetal Medicine Foundation, UK and ISUOG. Prof. Basky Thilaganathan is a specialist in the medical and surgical management of highrisk pregnancies (materno-fetal medicine) with a focus on twin pregnancy, fetal growth, fetal abnormality and pre-eclampsia. Prof. Thilaganathan's research methods include uterine Doppler and trophoblast invasion, screening for pre-eclampsia, echocardiography-based studies of maternal cardiac adaptation to pregnancy, and clinical studies of twin pregnancies.
He has authored two undergraduate and five postgraduate textbooks in obstetrics and fetal medicine and is the lead trainer for the Maternal-Fetal medicine sub-speciality training programme at St George’s Hospital, London. Prof. Thilaganathan was Editor-in-Chief of ISUOG’s Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology for nearly 8 years, within that time raising the Journal’s impact factor to 5.654. Furthermore, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in indexed journals. He is a Council Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), member of the National screening Committee and also the Clinical Lead
for the first dedicated high-throughput NIPT lab in the UK NHS to undertake cfDNA aneuploidy screening in pregnancy.
Prof. Kypros Nicolaides is Professor of Fetal Medicine at King’s College Hospital, London. He was born in Cyprus and studied medicine at Kings, training in obstetrics and gynecology and specialising in fetal medicine. He has carried out extensive research in many aspects of fetal diagnosis and therapy leading to the publication of more than 1400 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals. His research publications on imaging and prenatal diagnosis have transformed ultrasound practice and his work to implement quality control for nuchal translucency has led to this technique becoming an established screening test of Down's syndrome and other genetic conditions. He was awarded the ISUOG Ian Donald Gold Medal in 1999 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field.
He has provided training in fetal medicine to more than 500 doctors from 50 countries and has supervised more than 50 doctors to undertake research leading to PhDs and MDs. In 1995 he founded the charity The Fetal Medicine Foundation, which has donated more than £45 million to promote research and training in fetal medicine throughout the world.

Christoph Lees is Professor of Obstetrics as Imperial College London; Honorary Consultant in Obstetrics and Head of Specialty for Fetal Medicine at the Centre for Fetal Care, Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; Clinical Director for Fetal Medicine for North West London and Visiting Professor KU Leuven (Belgium). His research interest is on fetal assessment and in particular the use of Doppler ultrasound to assess the health of the baby, scanning in labour, and non-invasive fetal surgery. He is the Chief Investigator of The Trial of Umbilical and Fetal Flow in Europe (TRUFFLE), a Collaboration of 51 Centres across Europe; co-founder of the International Working Group of Maternal Haemodynamics and Intrapartum ultrasound ISLANDs group. He was awarded £2.2m grant from the Medical Research Council for first in human studies of high-intensity focused ultrasound in 2017, a £2.5m grant from the NIHR in 2019 to undertake the TRUFFLE 2 RCT and a £2.1M grant from the NIHR for a study on ultrasound of breech pregnancy at 36 weeks in 2023.

Professor Tony Perkins is a biochemist who completed his PhD in placental biology at the University of Oxford. After spending a couple of years as a post doc fellow at Oxford he returned to Australia to an academic position at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus. For the past 25 years he has been actively involved in studying placental mitochondrial function at the fetomaternal interface and the role of oxidative stress in pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia. He has published 120+ papers, graduated many PhD students and has many productive collaborations both Nationally and Internationally. He is currently the Australasian editor for the journal Placenta and is on the editorial board of Nutrients.

Dr Sarosh Rana is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and section Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Chicago. Her clinical interests are the management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, especially as it pertains to adverse outcomes among black women. She takes care of pregnant and postpartum patients with high-risk conditions such as preeclampsia, hypertension, kidney transplant, heart failure, and obesity. Dr. Rana also performs translational research. For the past 15 years, her lab has worked on finding new biomarkers for risk stratification of women with preeclampsia. She is particularly interested in elucidating the role of angiogenic biomarkers in the prediction of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Dr. Rana conducts national and international translational studies. She trains medical students, residents, and fellows and also performs high-level ultrasounds.

Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Verlohren, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Obstetrics and a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics, Charité University Medicine, Berlin. He is specialized in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and DEGUM II-Instructor with a clinical interest in high risk pregnancy care as well as prenatal diagnosis of fetal malformations.
After studying Medicine in Marburg, Berlin and Lausanne, he was trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Charité Berlin. He performed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Max-Delbrueck-Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin and a Clinical Fellowship at the Fetal Medicine Unit, St. Georges Hospital, London.
His main research interest is preeclampsia, he is the head of the Preeclampsia Research Group at the Charité. Dr. Verlohren has published extensively basic and clinical research on that topic. He is member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM), Treasurer of the German Society of Prenatal Medicine and Obstetrics (DGPGM), member of the Editorial Board of Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy as well as Associate Editor of Archives of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Professor Stephen Tong is a clinician-scientist (specialist obstetrician) at The Mercy Hospital for Women and The University of Melbourne.
He is focussed on translational research - developing new diagnostics and treatments to tackle major complications that threaten the lives of mothers and babies.
He leads a translational pipeline to identify new drugs for preeclampsia. Starting with laboratory evaluation, it extends to successive randomised clinical trials in South Africa. He also leads research to develop new diagnostics to help women avoid stillbirth.
His network of major clinical studies and trials for which he has a lead role spans South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Chile, Solomon Islands, Pakistan, and across Australia.
Prof Tong has published over 180 papers, including recent contributions in The Lancet, Nature Communication, Lancet Global Health and many in BMC Medicine, Hypertension, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; and others.
Elisa Llurba, MD, PhD (ELL) is the Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the Santa Creu i Sant Pau University Hospital. Associated Professor in Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and principal investigator (PI) of the Perinatal and Women's Health Group, recently created in the Santa Creu and Sant Pau Hospital Research Institute in Barcelona. Coordinates work of 7 pre-doctoral researchers and 3 post- doctoral investigators.
ELL presents an outstanding clinical research trajectory as leader and active member of a clinical and basic research group focused on the study of diseases derived placental insufficiency, preeclampsia, growth restriction and congenital heart disease. ELL is the PI within the framework of RETICs 16/0022 entitled MATERNAL CHILD AND DEVELOPMENT NETWORK (SAMID) (Instituto de Salud Carlos III) in which is the coordinator of one of the two programs awarded in the last call for RETICs. Her lines of research have also been funded by 4 public FIS calls last one in 2019 entittle: “Cardiac dysfunction and remodeling in patients with preeclampsia regulated by antiangiogenic environment: Clinical and experimental approach (FIS PI19/00702)” in line with previous financed projects as a PI: PI 16/00375 and PI13/01449, a non-commercial clinical trial (HOPPE-trial: EC-2010) and an IMPACT grant from the Department of Education and Science. The line has also been financed by private funds: PROGNOSIS ROCHE study.
Dr Ananth Karumanchi, Medallion Chair in Vascular Biology, is Director of Renovascular Research in the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC), Los Angeles. Dr. Karumanchi’s laboratory is focused on discovering pathogenic pathways and bringing therapies to patients in the areas of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Karumanchi’s research activities are vertically integrated, ranging from molecular and cell biological studies to animal models to first-in-class human clinical trials. Dr. Karumanchi has published >300 papers (with several publications in NEJM, Circulation, Nature, Nature Medicine, JCI with H index = 107).
