Read a special message from our founding President, Prof. Stuart Campbell, and our current President, Prof. (dr) Katia Bilardo on ISUOG turning 30 - our journey, our mission and our vision for the future.
Message for the ISUOG community from our founding President, Prof. Stuart Campbell, and our current President, Prof. (dr) C.M (Katia) Bilardo

The Virtual World Congress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology will inaugurate the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG).
The Society grew from “an awareness that we needed an international society to act as a forum for inādepth analysis and presentation of advances in ultrasound diagnosis in all aspects of our specialty, to be an influential body, setting standards for training and monitoring the safety of ultrasound in obstetric and gynecological diagnosis, and to hold a major conference every year to explore the most recent developments in the field and to bring together professionals who use ultrasound to improve clinical care”
A team of enthusiastic professors and fellows built a fantastic program for the first World Congress, which took place in London (even the weather was good) in January 1991 and brought together more than 1000 delegates. The best minds and most outstanding experts in ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology were amongst them. The first issue of the Journal, Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, was published at the same time.
For the 30th anniversary, we intended to host our World Congress in Glasgow where clinical studies in 2D ultrasound and our Specialty first began under Ian Donald’s leadership but the current Covid-19 pandemic has caused us to change plans and develop an exciting Virtual World Congress which will allow us to obtain the greatest researchers, teachers and practitioners from around the globe.
We are celebrating 30 years of a vision taking form, 30 years of excellence, innovation and leadership, 30 years of enthusiasm and passion for the mission to improve women’s health through the highest quality education, standards and research information on ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology and 30 years of success in all areas of the Society, from the journal to clinical resources, the educational and training curriculum, the congress, outreach and much more.
With sincere thanks to all of you in the ISUOG community who have contributed to our success. Please join us at the ISUOG Virtual World Congress to celebrate and to look to the future to build on what we have achieved in the last three decades.
