Learning objectives

A/Prof. Ligita Jokubkiene is an associated professor at Lund university, Sweden and senior consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology, at Skane University Hospital in Malmö, Sweden. 

Ligita Jokubkiene performs both gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound examinations at an advanced level.  She has defended her thesis with the title” Three-dimensional ultrasound studies of normal and abnormal ovaries” in 2012. Se is an active researcher leading several research projects with focus on ultrasound diagnostics in endometriosis, pelvic pain and pelvic floor birth-related injuries. She is also a part of international multicenter studies lead by IOTA, IETA, IDEA and MUSA groups studying ovarian masses, endometrial and myometrial pathology and endometriosis. Ligita Jokubkiene is supervising master and PhD students and is a chief supervisor of Medical Students at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.

Ligita Jokubkiene organizes and leads national and international courses on ultrasound diagnostics in gynecology from basic to advanced level to midwives and doctors. She has been an invited speaker at international courses and congresses.

Ligita Jokubkiene is a Chair of Educational courses subcommittee at ISUOG. She is also a chair of the Ultrasound reference group at Swedish Society of Obstetrics and gynecology in Sweden, Advisory Board member of European Endometriosis League and a member of IOTA Editorial Board.

Dr Valentina Chiappa (Italy) Clnical Standards Committee member

Dr Valentina Chiappa is a Senior Staff Clinician Scientist in the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori (INT) in Milan, Italy. Her main clinical and research interests include gynecologic ultrasound, characterization of adnexal masses and the application of artificial intelligence to gynecologic oncology.

She undertook dedicated fellowships in gynecologic oncology ultrasound at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli in Rome and at Charles University and General Faculty Hospital in Prague.

She is actively involved in national and international scientific societies. Within ISUOG, she chairs the Practice Guidelines on Ultrasound in Adnexal Pathology (ongoing), the Practice Guidelines on Ultrasound in Uterine Pathology and rare conditions (ongoing), she represents ISUOG in the ACR O-RADS Working Group, and has contributed to the ISUOG Patient Information Task Force.

She is Treasurer of SIEOG (Società Italiana di Ecografia Ostetrica e Ginecologica e Metodologie Biofisiche) and Chair of its Gynecologic Working Group, and has been an active contributing investigator of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) group since 2011.

Valentina is also actively involved in education and research, including the scientific direction of advanced courses in gynecologic ultrasound. Prof. Lil Valentin (Sweden) ISUOG Fellowship, 2007; Ian Donald Gold Medal, 2019

Prof. Lil Valentin is a Swedish Senior Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Lund University and the former Head of the Ultrasound Unit at Skåne University Hospital Malmö. She is globally recognized as a leading authority on gynaecological ultrasound, specifically for her pioneering research in the non-invasive discrimination between benign and malignant ovarian tumors. She earned her medical degree from Lund University in 1974, completed her specialization in obstetrics and gynaecology in 1980, and was awarded a full professorship at her alma mater in 2002.

Prof. Valentin has co-founded major international research networks that have transformed clinical practice. In 1997, she co-founded the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) collaboration, which now spans over 40 global centres to improve the pre-operative diagnosis of adnexal masses. In 2008, she also co-founded the International Endometrial Tumor Analysis (IETA) group to standardize the ultrasound evaluation of endometrial pathology. Beyond her work in oncology, she has served as the main coordinator for Swedish multicenter studies examining cervical length to predict and prevent preterm births.

Her extensive academic contributions include over 250 peer-reviewed scientific publications and a tenure as an editor for the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (UOG). In recognition of her exceptional impact on the field, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) awarded her the prestigious Ian Donald Gold Medal for lifetime achievement in 2019. Additionally, she holds honorary fellowships with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), and she has taught at more than 140 clinical ultrasound training courses worldwide.
