Overview

Prof Conrado Milani Coutinho is Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo, Brazil, and a senior consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine. His special interests are in the use of ultrasound for the prediction, prevention, and diagnosis of fetal and placental anomalies, as well as major obstetric syndromes. Prof Coutinho holds MSc and PhD degrees in Tocogynecology from the University of São Paulo and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Fetal Medicine at St. George’s University Hospital, London, UK. 

Prof Conrado is a postgraduate supervisor at his institution, president of the Perinatology Committee at the Brazilian Federation of ObGyn (FEBRASGO), associate editor of RBGO Gynecology and Obstetrics, and serves on the ISUOG Clinical Standards Committee and Educational Courses Subcommittee.

Prof. Asma Khalil is a Professor of Fetal Medicine. She is the Obstetric Lead at the National Maternity and Perinatal Audit (NMPA). She gained her MD at the University of London in 2008.   

Prof. Asma Khalil has published more than 500 peer-reviewed papers, and many published review articles and chapters. She was awarded many research prizes, both at national and international meetings. She was awarded the 2021 FIGO Women's Awards: Recognising Female Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Her research interests include twin pregnancy, congenital infections, fetal growth restriction and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.  

She had a fellowship with the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).  committed to the implementation of clinical guidelines in practice. She is the Lead author of the ISUOG guideline on the role of ultrasound in twins and congenital infections. She also led the guideline team developing the FIGO guideline on twin pregnancies. She was a member of the NICE Guideline Committee updating the Twin and Multiple Pregnancy guidance.

Prof. Angela Ranzini is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and Professor of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University. Her special interests include anomaly identification, prediction of prematurity, Twins, Teaching processes and Quality control. Angela completed her MD at Medical College of Virginia (VCU), her Ob/Gyn residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY and her Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA

Prof. Angela Ranzini is the Director of the Fetal Diagnostic Center at the MetroHealth System and the Program Director for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the MetroHealth/Case Western Reserve University joint fellowship with University Hospitals. She is a past Chair of the Education Committee and was the Project Lead for the Rwanda Outreach program and a member of the Sudan Outreach program. She has been involved in many Committees and Task Forces of ISUOG.

Maya Al-Memar is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust, with specialist clinical interests in complex benign gynaecology, acute diagnostic services including early pregnancy and acute gynaecology, rapid access for suspected gynaecological cancer, and paediatric & adolescent gynaecology. She completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in North-West London including specialty training at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, and St Mary’s Hospital. Having worked in the largest gynaecology & reproductive medicine service in London at Imperial, she has experience in managing complex patients. Her focus is to provide the best possible care for women using high quality diagnostics ultrasound skills to streamline care. She graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine with first class honours in 2007, where she also completed her PhD and is now an honorary clinical lecturer. She is widely published in peer-reviewed journals. She currently has on-going research projects in the fields of early pregnancy, miscarriage, ovarian cysts and use of ultrasound to improve diagnosis of ovarian masses.

Jerôme Cornette was trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Belgium, South Africa and the Netherlands. He works as a Maternal and Fetal Medicine Specialist at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam and University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA) and is a visiting professor at the University of Antwerp. He defended his PhD on hemodynamic profiling in complicated pregnancies. His areas of expertise are fetal and maternal echocardiography, Obstetric critical care, cardiac disease in pregnancy and obstetric surgery (PAS, laparoscopic cerclage). As a member of the International Working Group on Maternal Hemodynamics, he aims to promote Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) into maternal and fetal medicine. By his involvement in fetal and maternal heart disease, he forms a link between pediatric and adult cardiologist at the Erasmus MC congenital heart center. He supports a life-cycle approach to women’s cardiovascular health and promotes ultrasound as a non-invasive tool for this purpose.

Prof. Christoph F. Dietrich, MBA, is a German medical researcher and clinician widely recognized as a global authority in internal medicine and medical ultrasound (sonography). He is also a professor at Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany, holds an honorary professorship at Zhengzhou University in China, and directs the Center of Education and Excellence in Thun, Switzerland.

He has an exceptionally broad clinical repertoire, holding board certifications in gastroenterology, hepatology, pneumology, haematology, oncology, proctology, geriatric medicine, and palliative care. This diverse expertise underpins his groundbreaking work in diagnostic imaging, particularly in pioneering applications of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and point-of-care lung ultrasound. His medical and strategic capabilities are further supported by an MBA in International Hospital and Healthcare Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, which he earned alongside his foundational medical training completed in Hannover, New York, and Montpellier.

Prof. Professor Dietrich has heavily influenced global clinical guidelines and ultrasound safety standards. He served as the President of the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) from 2013 to 2015 and has held several executive roles within the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), including Vice President and Treasurer. He has authored more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific papers and contributed to over 500 textbook chapters, securing his position as one of the most frequently cited researchers in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.

Dr Megha Gupta is an academic Maternal and Fetal Medicine (MFM) Specialist and Obstetrician-Gynecologist based in Boston, Massachusetts. Her medical career began at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, where she earned her medical degree in 2011. She completed her residency training at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center before moving on to complete a highly specialized clinical fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Currently, Dr Gupta serves as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. She manages complex pregnancies clinically at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and maintains professional affiliations with Massachusetts General Hospital. Her contributions to the field have earned her peer-nominated award considerations within the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) group.

Her clinical practice and research focus primarily on high-risk obstetrics and maternal-fetal complications. Dr Gupta possesses specialized expertise in treating severe medical conditions that impact pregnancy, including blood and coagulation disorders such as Antiphospholipid Syndrome and HELLP Syndrome.

Prof. Wolfgang Henrich is a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics as well as Head of the Department of Obstetrics at Charite' - University Medical Center in Berlin, Germany.

He studied at the University of Heidelberg, in San Diego and Zurich and gained his medical degree in 1989. In 2007 he became University Professor at Charite'. He also serves as a Board Member of DEGUM.

His focal points are high risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnostics and therapy, medical and intrauterine therapy.

Ligita Jokubkiene is an associate professor at Lund university, Sweden and senior consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology, at Skane University Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Malmö, Swede. She has defended her thesis with the title ”Three-dimensional ultrasound studies of normal and abnormal ovaries” in 2012. Currently she is an active researcher leading several research projects with focus on ultrasound diagnostics in gynecology, particularly on endometriosis, pelvic floor birth-related injuries and pelvic pain. Dr Valentina De Robertis is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology who specializes in fetal medicine and advanced prenatal diagnostics, and is a leading expert in the early detection and management of complex fetal conditions.

She is a senior medical director within the Fetal Medicine Unit for the ASL Bari health authority, managing advanced prenatal screenings and high-risk pregnancies across key regional hospital hubs, including the Di Venere Hospital in Bari and the Sarcone Hospital in Terlizzi. Dr. Amir A. Shamshirsaz is an obstetrician and gynecologist who holds dual specialities in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) and Surgical Critical Care. He earned his medical degree from the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2003 before moving to the United States to do his advanced training. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at George Washington University in 2015, followed by specialised fellowship training in managing highly intricate, life-threatening obstetric conditions.

He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine. In his clinical practice, he operates out of the Texas Children's Hospital Pavilion for Women and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston, Texas. His unique background allows him to serve as a pivotal specialist for pregnant patients with highly complex medical and surgical needs, straddling the line between intensive care medicine and advanced perinatology.

Dr. Amir A. Shamshirsaz research focuses heavily on critical care obstetrics and complex placental anomalies, most notably Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS). He has dedicated much of his career to improving maternal survival rates, contributing as a co-author to medical literature, Critical Care Obstetrics. His work frequently involves managing surgical complications during delivery, multi-organ system support for pregnant women, and collaborating on advanced fetal interventions.

Prof. Tamara Stampalija graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua in 2000 and then specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Trieste in 2006. In 2014 she obtained her PhD at the University of Milan. She has completed a period of training as Research Fellow by Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Royal Liverpool Hospital, UK in 2008-09, and later as a Research Associate in the Perinatology Research Branch of Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA in 2012-13. From 2008 until 2012 she worked at the Children’s Hospital Vittore Buzzi in Milan. From 2013 she is appointed at the Institute for Maternal and Child Health IRCCS Burlo Garofalo in Trieste, where in 2016 she become Chief of Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Diagnosis Unit. Since 2019 she holds the position of Associate Professor in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Department of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences at the University of Trieste, whereas later in 2021 she received the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor. Over the years she has participated in several working groups  for the guideline production  based on the Grade methodology. She is a member of the Clinical Standard Committee of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), regional representative of the Italian Society of Perinatology (SIMP) and vice-president of the Italian Association of Preeclampsia (AIPE). 

Dr Trigo is an Ob/Gyn who graduated at the University of Campinas, Brazil in 2015. He also specialized in women's ultrasound and obtained a master in sciences degree (MSc) from 2016 to 2017. 

From 2018 to 2021, he lived in Barcelona for his PhD in fetal medicine and fetal surgery at the University of Barcelona and KU Leuven with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. He's currently in the process of defending his thesis. 

In 2021, he moved to Switzerland, where he currently finishes the validation of his Ob/Gyn specialisation. 

Since medical school, Dr Trigo was always interested in research and teaching activities. He first joined ISUOG as a task-force member for the Intermedium curriculum, and is currently an official member of the Educational Courses Subcommittee.
