Pelvic floor and labour ward ultrasound

Join us on Sunday 29 January 2023 for our education course on pelvic floor and labour ward ultrasound led by Boris Tutschek and Aly Youssef and a panel of experts from across the world.

‘Pelvic floor and labour ward ultrasound’ will focus on the use, benefits, and limitations of ultrasound for labour and pelvic floor examinations, covering a wide range of topics using panel discussions, case studies and more.

By the end of the course, you will have the confidence to recognise the maternal anatomy including the pelvic floor using 2D and 3D/4D ultrasound. You will also gain knowledge of the various techniques used for pelvic floor examinations and their limitations.

This course is relevant to obstetricians, sonographers, midwives, and anyone who is the involved in antenatal care of pregnant women.

This course has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 7 European CME credits. Physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Trainees/residents and sonographers/radiographers

Proof of status: All trainees, residents, sonographers and radiographers will need to submit proof of their trainee, resident, sonographer or radiographer status by way of a letter from their Department or Institution. The letter must be in English and dated within the last 3 months. The document can be uploaded at the time of registering or sent by email to [email protected].

Sonographer definition: A sonographer is a non-physician medical imaging professional who performs diagnostic medical sonography, or diagnostic ultrasound.

Trainee/resident definition: A trainee is a medical professional who is not yet fully qualified or practicing without supervision within their chosen specialty and in accordance with the relevant national regulatory authorities; a resident is in residency training which leads to specially or subspecialty) certification.

Dr Aly Youssef was a resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Alexandria University, Egypt until 2006. He worked as a trainee in the Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine Unit, Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital, University of Bologna, Italy from 2008 to 2013, where he became a consultant since 2015. He has published over 120 academic papers in peer-reviewed journals mainly in the field of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and ultrasound evaluation of the pelvic floor.

Prof. Boris Tutschek is an ISUOG Board Member, a fetal medicine and gynecology ultrasound specialist in Zürich, Switzerland, as well as a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Düsseldorf University in Germany. His expertise includes fetal maternal medicine, fetal cardiology, teaching and training obstetrics and gynecology as well as new technologies. He is an active member of several ISUOG Working Groups.

Professor Torbjørn M. Eggebø is professor in obstetrics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and director of the National center of fetal medicine at St.Olavs Hospital, Trondheim, Norway.

The research from his group focuses on the use of ultrasound during active labour and he defended a thesis in this topic in 2009. He has continued this research and supervised several phd candidates. His goal is to implement the use of ultrasound as standard care in labor wards.

His research also includes publications related to fetal malformations, interventions during labour, postpartum hemorrhage, anal sphincter ruptures, management of prolonged pregnancies and simulation training in complicated deliveries.

He was a member of the MSF team (Doctors without Borders) in Bo, Sierra Leone in 2008 and 2009 and participated in the outreach team of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) in Somaliland in 2012 and in the basic training course in Malta in 2018.

Dr Vered Eisenberg (Israel)

Dr. Vered Eisenberg is a senior obstetrician gynecologist at the Sheba Medical Center and Medical Assistant to the Associate Director General of the Sheba Medical Center.

She specializes in obstetric and gynecological ultrasound with an interest in pelvic floor imaging and endometriosis dedicated ultrasound.

Prof. Wolfgang Henrich is a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics as well as Head of the Department of Obstetrics at Charite' - University Medical Center in Berlin, Germany.

He studied at the University of Heidelberg, in San Diego and Zurich and gained his medical degree in 1989. In 2007 he became University Professor at Charite'. He also serves as a Board Member of DEGUM.

His focal points are high risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnostics and therapy, medical and intrauterine therapy.

He also holds academic appointments as Professor of Gastrointestinal Surgery at University of Padua, Italy and Honorary Professor at Shandong University, China. Dr.Santoro is Director of the Italian School of Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography. He is board member of the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery and member of the editorial board of World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery and Pelviperineology. He is also author of more then 200 chapters and articles published on peer-review journals as well as the author of three books. Ingrid Volløyhaug is a senior consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Olav’s Hospital, Trondheim University Hospital and assistant professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. Her main field of interest in the clinic is urogynaecology. Her main research interests include pelvic floor imaging, prevention and treatment of pelvic floor injuries and pelvic floor disorders.

ISUOG's education courses are accredited on a case by case basis. Please check the course webpage for information on CME accreditation. Please note the CME certificate will be available for one month after a course. After one month registered delegates will only be able to download their ISUOG certificate of attendance.

How do I download my certificate?

Following a course registered delegates will receive an email with a link to submit an evaluation form. After completing the evaluation form, registered delegates will be redirected to their certificate, which can be filled in before downloading.
