Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology has been instrumental in popularizing the diagnostic modality of pelvic floor ultrasound in urogynecology. This Virtual Issue cites 26 of the most influential papers in urogynecological ultrasound since 1986, including a selection of 20 papers from UOG between 1992 and 2008. The selection contains some of the most frequently quoted original papers that we have published and several review articles that have helped to establish the diagnostic method of pelvic floor (or translabial/perineal) ultrasound. For historical reasons we have also included the very first urogynecological ultrasound papers printed in the ‘White Journal’, even though they are rarely quoted today. Stuart Campbell, the Founding Editor of UOG, was largely responsible for promoting many of those first tentative steps in a field without precedents, rules and sympathetic reviewers, and many of us owe him an incalculable debt of gratitude. It is only fitting that this volume should be dedicated to him.
