This year, we are delighted to be welcoming six travel grantees to the ISUOG World Congress in September. Hear from one of the 2025 travel grantees, Dr Ghanem Ahmed, from Tunisia.

Dr Ghanem Ahmed is a 29-year-old resident in obstetrics and gynecology at the Center of Maternity and Neonatology in Tunis, Tunisia - a leading referral centre for maternal-fetal medicine in North Africa. Originally from Tunisia, he works under the mentorship of Prof. Dalenda Chelli, ISUOG Ambassador for Africa. Dr Ahmed has a strong clinical and academic interest in high-risk pregnancy management and fetal in-utero interventions. He is passionate about advancing prenatal diagnosis and promoting excellence in maternal-fetal ultrasound across the region.

Dr Ahmed will present his abstract 'In-utero thoracic drainage for fetal pleural effusion at 27 weeks: a life-saving intervention' at the ISUOG World Congress. Here's what he had to say about being chosen as one of the select few travel grantees for our 2025 event:

"Being selected as a travel grantee for the ISUOG Congress is a great honour and a key step in my professional development. I work at the Center of Maternity and Neonatology in Tunis, the national referral centre for prenatal diagnosis in Tunisia, where we manage high-risk pregnancies and receive patients from across Africa.

"Under the mentorship of Prof. Dalenda Chelli, ISUOG Ambassador for Africa, I focus on fetal medicine, particularly prenatal diagnosis and in-utero interventions. Participating in this global event allows me to represent Tunisia’s growing contribution to research in maternal-fetal health, to connect with international experts, and to bring back knowledge that can help improve outcomes in resource-limited settings. It reinforces my commitment to advancing global health through equitable access to quality obstetric care."
