Our President, Prof. Reem Abu-Rustum, shares an important message that highlights the core values of ISUOG ahead of this year's World Congress in Cancun.

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is a bittersweet time of year, mixed with tears of joy and sorrow, especially for everyone in the academic world as we bid farewell to our trainees, residents and fellows, who have been with us for a few years, and welcome in the new trainees, the future of our specialty. Making sure they join ISUOG will ensure that they have the lifelong companion that will provide them with cutting-edge research, the latest guidelines, resources for ongoing education and our global network of nearly 18,000 members…

As always, I wish to share our latest updates with you as our World Congress in Cancun nears, the registrations increase and we look forward to meeting in person at this landmark global event.

Inclusion: Our recruitment season is over and attracted an impressive number of 144 candidates representing 31 countries who applied for roles on our 28 committees, sub-committees, ambassadors and special interest groups. We are very excited to be announcing 13 new appointments and three re-appointments at the Annual General Meeting in Cancun. We thank all our volunteers wholeheartedly; their collective talents, passion and dedication will have a ripple effect way beyond ISUOG.

Modernisation: ISUOG is committed to enhancing our member experience and we thank all of you who participated in our recent online survey. I am happy to share that the Board of trustees has approved a new CRM, one that will facilitate our communication with our members and work towards a member-centered educational experience across our platforms and offerings.

People: It is with much sadness that I share with our membership the passing of our dear Dion Bassett. Many of you knew Dion for her beautiful smile, impeccable organisation and the personal touch she infused into all she did. Dion joined the ISUOG family in 2016 working primarily with the events team. She was a driving force at the office for our Ultrasound Essentials annual course as she was passionate about ensuring the widest dissemination of our education to the underserved regions around the world. We shall miss her presence and positive energy in our daily lives, and mostly feel her absence at our congress in Cancun. She is survived by her daughters Rhiannon and Livvy and was the loving wife of the late Clive Bassett and mother of the late Molly Bassett. To them we send our sincerest condolences and tell them she is woven into the fabric of our lives and will live on in our hearts and memories…

Advocacy: During our upcoming Annual General Meeting in Cancun, we shall unveil our latest global initiative. Please join us in person to hear about our plans for ISUOG IMPACT and learn how you can get involved. We need each and everyone of you to be able to succeed and achieve our goals.

Certification: As new trainees join your institutions, sign them up for the two-year free trainee membership. Also, register them for the Basic training online program. This is their first step towards receiving the ISUOG Certificate of completion and the prerequisite to our ISUOG Advanced curriculum.

Teaching: It is not too late to register and join us in Cancun. I wish to thank the Scientific Committee and Professors Van den Bosch and Da Silva Costa together with Saskia Dean and Rochelle Roach for putting together an outstanding program. We promise you an unforgettable five days of marvellous imaging, latest innovation and research, with the chance to network with the world’s experts and future rising stars. Please contact us for special group discounts.

Until we meet in Cancun. I remain available to you for any inquiries, ideas or suggestions.

Sincerely yours,
Reem S. Abu-Rustum
ISUOG President
