Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (UOG) is looking to appoint a new Social Media Editor
UOG is the official journal of ISUOG. It is recognised as the leading peer-reviewed journal on imaging within the field of obstetrics and gynecology, publishing important research from all parts of the world. It is published monthly and features an international authorship and a fully electronic manuscript submission and review process. The UOG Journal has an established presence on social media, with an average of 20 related posts per month on the ISUOG social media accounts. Last year, journal posts achieved over 11 million impressions and 380k engagements across platforms.
We are looking for a Social Media Editor (SME) to lead the development and delivery of engaging content to promote the UOG Journal across social media platforms and the ISUOG website. Interested candidates should have a strong interest in shaping social media strategy and be driven to seek ways to improve the presence of UOG content on social media to increase engagement and article dissemination.
Applicants for the position should be a medical or allied medical professional, practicing in the field of obstetrics and/or gynecology and/or ultrasound. This position is perfect for those who have recently specialised. Prospective applicants should be able to demonstrate a particular interest and some degree of experience in producing social media content and promotional communications (e.g. news articles, blogs etc.) linked to scientific, health-based content, as well as experience of using various social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. An established presence on social media is desirable.

The main responsibilities of the role:
- To lead UOG’s social media strategy and collaborate with the Editorial team to develop new ideas for promoting journal content
- To identify newly accepted articles suitable for promotion
- To select images/videos or create media content for article promotion and provide engaging copy for social media, when required.
- To create infographics for selected articles
- To identify key UOG articles (from the last 2-3 years) that align with awareness months/days
- To write engaging news articles to accompany high-impact publications and awareness days for the ISUOG website
- To highlight articles suitable for press releases
- To check author-supplied graphical content to ensure it accurately reflects the manuscript and is appropriate for social media
Terms of appointment:
- The Editor term lasts for 1 year, renewable for a further term of 2 years at the mutual agreement of the parties (in line with the Society policy at the time)
- An allowance (to be determined by the Editor-in-Chief annually) will be given as a contribution towards attending the annual meeting of the Editors
- Editors must commit to meet at least once a year at the ISUOG World Congress, and to attend the Editorial Board meeting and any other meetings as are deemed appropriate by, and agreed in advance with, the Society
Qualifications and experience:
- Medical or allied medical professional, practicing in the field of obstetrics and/or gynecology and/or ultrasound
- PhD, MD or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
- Perfect for those who have recently specialised in the field of obstetrics and/or gynecology and/or ultrasound
Experience and skills:
- Experience of using various social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
- Experience in producing social media content and promotional communications (e.g. news articles, blogs etc.) linked to scientific, health-based content
- An established presence on social media would be desirable
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent writing skills in English
- Strong creative thinking for digital content
Knowledge:
- Good understanding of using social media for promotion of Journal-specific content
- Good understanding of various social media platforms and how to tailor content to specific platforms
- Good understanding of and familiarity with UOG content and ISUOG mission
- Understanding and interest of how to grow engagement on social media
