- Eduard Gratacos: I have a talk on artificial placenta, which is in experimental approach for extremely term babies. However, this is still an experimental prototype tested in animals and therefore I will discuss potential clinical applications from a theoretical point of view, not involving data from or recommendations about its use in humans. Pending of definitive acceptance by and permission from the journal, I will present the design (if not published yet) or the full results (if already published) of a randomised trial conducted by our team on the use of amniocentesis to aid in the management of preterm birth. If this is the case, I will acknowledge the limitations of the study as they are stated in the discussion of the paper
- Jan Brosens: The presentation will include a description of how to measure the endometrial decidual reaction based on published biomarkers (https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/sciadv.adv1988). These biomarkers have been patented by the University of Warwick. The University of Warwick also established a spinout company, Xambika (https://xambika.com/), to commercialise the biomarkers in a new endometrial test. The presentation will cover the biology of the biomarkers without direct reference to the commercial test. Although the presentation will be restricted to outlining the biology of published biomarkers and their clinical applications, my role as scientific founder and shareholder of Xambika will be disclosed.
