Last month, ISUOG facilitated a successful Basic Training (BT) course in Lechería, Venezuela, to help empower ultrasound providers and transform outcomes for women within resource-limited communities.

ISUOG offers universities and training institutions the opportunity to run an ISUOG Basic Training program – a flexible approach to accessing high-quality education. This is the face-to-face version of the course that accompanies the Basic Training Online Programme. This initiative provides a flexible and cost-efficient way to deliver education on the theoretical understanding of ultrasound use in obstetrics and gynecology.
This recent BT course in Venezuela, was a one-day introduction to the ISUOG Basic Training Online Program and received nearly 100 delegates and 98 new ISUOG members. The training program was delivered by Scientific Committee member A/Prof. Jezid Miranda, from Colombia, with the support of Dr Ramiro Diaz, ISUOG Ambassador for North America, and Dr Gihad Chalouhi, Chair of the Basic Training Sub-Committee.

A/Prof. Miranda was very pleased with the outcome of the course and recognised its importance in Latin America – a part of the world with many lower and middle-income countries “where doctors continue to work through unimaginable humanitarian and political challenges”.
He continued to say:
"Delivering the ISUOG Basic Training course in Venezuela reminded us that even in the most resource-limited and complex environments, education can be a lifeline. It empowers providers, restores a sense of purpose, and ultimately changes outcomes for women and their families. In Latin America, where disparities remain deep, this work reinforces our shared mission: to build equitable systems where no woman is left behind.
“As a member of the ISUOG Scientific Committee—something I’m truly honoured to be part of—it’s especially meaningful to see our collective efforts reaching the places that need them most.”
