While global maternal mortality has dropped significantly since 1990, around 830 women still die from pregnancy and childbirth related causes every day, 99% of which happen in developing countries.* Part of the UN’s Global Goal for Sustainable Development of good health and well-being is to reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030. Find out more about how ISUOG is using the power of ultrasound to help achieve this.

Using ultrasound can detect pregnancy complications early and ultimately make childbirth safer for the mother and child. However, many regions do not have the resources or adequate training to do this. As an international Society continually producing ultrasound educational training and up-to-date ultrasound research, we are well-situated to help in this global effort.

Our mission is to improve women’s health through the provision, advancement and dissemination of the highest quality education, standards and research information around ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology. We are continually working to help meet the UN’s Global Goals for Sustable Development through our Outreach program, which provides basic ultrasound training to local practitioners in under resourced regions with the aim that they will eventually become ultrasound trainers in their own region.
