Ahead of the upcoming ISUOG advanced course, The ISUOG Middle East Symposium: first to third trimester, we spoke with one of the key speakers, Dr Mouza Al Salmani, on what expertise she will be bringing to this unique educational experience.

The ISUOG Middle East Symposium: first to third trimester will take place next month, from 21-22 November 2025 in Doha, Qatar and online.

Co-chairing a session on 'Mid-trimester scan: scrrening for cardiac defects and spine anomolies' at the upcoming symposium is Dr Mouza Al Salmani, a Senior Consultant in obstetrics and fetal medicine from Muscat, Oman and an ISUOG Ambassador to the Middle East.

Mouza has played a pioneering role in advancing fetal medicine in Oman, namely by founding the Oman Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, OSUOG, a society dedicated to enhancing outcomes for women and their families.

Hear from Mouza on how her expertise will help broaden attendees' knowledge on the region-specific nuances of obstetric care:

"As a specialist in fetal medicine in the Middle East, I can offer a distinct perspective at the symposium, focusing on the region-specific challenges in prenatal care. The Middle East’s diversity in healthcare systems, cultural practices, and socioeconomic factors significantly affects maternal and fetal health outcomes. By addressing these challenges and sharing tailored best practices, the symposium can attract healthcare professionals eager to enhance their knowledge in fetal medicine."

"My experience with high-risk pregnancies, genetic disorders, and fetal anomalies in this region will provide attendees with critical insights and evidence-based recommendations for improving prenatal care. Given the rising prevalence of maternal and fetal health issues and the increasing demand for specialised care for complex pregnancies, the need for such a symposium is undeniable. Ultimately, by bringing together experts, researchers, and practitioners, we can facilitate valuable networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing to improve outcomes for mothers and babies across the Middle East."
