Dr. Prathima Radhakrishnan is a distinguished leader in fetal medicine, serving as the ISUOG Ambassador to India for the 2021–2026 term. As the first Indian to receive a Diploma in Fetal Medicine from the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF-UK), she has bridged the gap between international diagnostic standards and Indian clinical practice for over two decades.
Global Advocacy & Leadership
In her capacity as an ISUOG Ambassador, Dr. Radhakrishnan acts as a vital link between the global society and the Indian medical community. Her leadership focuses on:
- Standardizing Education: Promoting ISUOG’s clinical guidelines to ensure uniform quality in obstetric ultrasound across the Indian subcontinent.
- Scientific Contribution: A frequent faculty member and moderator at ISUOG and other World Congresses, she has delivered talks on various topics related to fetal imaging and therapy
- AI Integration: Advancing the society’s mission to reduce operator dependence in ultrasound through research into Deep Learning and automated biometric segmentation. The integration of AI in first trimester imaging and FMF audit process has received widespread acclaim for Dr Prathima.
Clinical & Academic Excellence
Beyond her advocacy, Dr. Radhakrishnan is the Director of the Bangalore Fetal Medicine Centre (BFMC), a premier tertiary referral and training hub. Her technical contributions to the field include:
- Pioneering Fetal Therapy: The first in India to perform therapeutic fetoscopic laser surgery for complex monochorionic twin pregnancies.
- Prolific Research: Over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, focusing on screening for pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, multiple pregnancies and aneuploidies.
- Global Training: As an FMF-accredited trainer, she has mentored thousands of specialists globally through innovative online and on-site ultrasound programs.
Public-Private Parity and Social Impact
With her latest ventures, Dr. Radhakrishnan has democratized high-end fetal care through groundbreaking Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). Her units—Ajaatha (Unit of IGICH) and Agama Fetal Medicine Centres—provide the underprivileged with access to advanced fetal therapies and diagnostics, ensuring that economic status does not dictate the survival of the fetus.
Global Advocacy and Vision
Dr. Radhakrishnan is dedicated to the democratization of fetal care. Her work in Public-Private Partnerships ensures that ISUOG’s "best practice" standards reach underprivileged populations, ensuring that advanced diagnostics and lifesaving in-utero therapies are available to all, regardless of economic status.
Currently serving as the ISUOG Ambassador for India (2021–2026), she is a leading voice on the future of the specialty. Her vision includes:
- AI Integration: Utilizing Artificial Intelligence to standardize fetal imaging and reduce inter-observer variability.
- Curriculum Reform: Incorporating fetal medicine into medical education to recognize the fetus as a distinct patient.
- Paternal Involvement: Advocating for partner participation to improve maternal mental health and neonatal outcomes.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Radhakrishnan is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and the recipient of the DSV Mrs. Grand Medico Diva 2024 title. She embodies a rare blend of clinical rigor, academic excellence, and cultural grace.
Further members of the Regional Organising Committee will be announced in due course.
