Discover the latest research on screening and diagnosis of fetal anomalies: heart at ISUOG 2026.
Congenital heart disease remains the most common congenital anomaly, affecting 8 per 1000 newborns, with nearly half of infant mortality attributable to cardiac defects. Advances in prenatal ultrasound imaging have transformed detection, shifting diagnosis to earlier in the antenatal period, thereby enabling perinatal planning, targeted follow-up, and informed parental counselling. Yet, despite these advances, significant variation persists in clinical practice. There remains no universal consensus on indications for fetal echocardiography, with marked discrepancies in how risk factors are interpreted and applied. Furthermore, detection rates continue to vary globally, reflecting differences in expertise, training and resource availability.
Against this backdrop of evolving evidence and ongoing debate, the 36th ISUOG World Congress in London offers a unique opportunity to engage with the latest research, hear directly from international experts in ultrasound and fetal cardiology, and explore the controversies shaping current practice. Through cutting-edge sessions and expert-led discussions that span global perspectives, attendees will gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure precise diagnoses, harmonised clinical approaches, and ultimately improved outcomes for infants and their families worldwide.
